The NCHSAA Foundation, Inc. manages various endowment funds that have designated purposes.
General Endowment Fund

The vision of former Executive Director Charles Adams and the Boards of Directors serving in the early 1990s resulted in the establishment of the General Endowment Fund in 1991. This fund was established to create and protect essential programs and sports provided for and by NCHSAA member schools.
The main goals of the General Endowment are:
To preserve and create opportunities for the student-athletes involved in NCHSAA member high schools’ athletics programs.
Examples of opportunities include:
- participation in sanctioned sports in playoffs and state championships without student-athletes paying a fee to participate
- participation in workshops, training, and leadership development initiatives
- access to scholarship opportunities and community service activities
- participation in recognition programs highlighting academics and athletic performance
To provide a vehicle for citizens of North Carolina to become involved in active support of wholesome programs that produce lasting results.
To offer financial assistance to member high schools through education-based grants in designated areas of focus.
Hall of Fame Endowment
In the mid-1990s, GlaxoSmithKline (formerly known as GlaxoWellcome) provided an initial $100,000 gift over four years to help underwrite the NCHSAA Hall of Fame, enabling it to honor individuals who have spent a lifetime in education. It is one of the Association’s most prestigious accolades. The NCHSAA Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to high school athletics in North Carolina. Funds aid in underwriting expenses related to the annual Hall of Fame Banquet.

Endowed Scholarship and Award Funds
Each scholarship and award fund is a separate fund within this endowment fund.
Donors designate how these funds are to be used. The principal can never be spent. Only interest earnings generated from each scholarship fund can be used to provide the annual scholarships and awards. The amount of each scholarship/award is determined based on interest earnings and donors’ wishes.
